Three reasons to consider the 2022 Mazda MX-30 as your next electric vehicle

The price of gas doesn't seem to want to stop going up and this has led many consumers to consider buying an electric vehicle as their next mode of transportation. There has never been a better time to look at EVs with more and more models offered on the market. That said, the 2022 Mazda MX-30 should be at the top of your list if you are looking for an EV.

But wait! Doesn't the Mazda MX-30 have a lot less range than other electric vehicles? Why would you buy an electric vehicle it has half the range of its competitors? Well, that's what we are going to look at here with three reasons to consider the MX-30 as your next electric vehicle.

The range number is… Just a number

The 2022 Mazda MX-30 has 161 km of range. Obviously, this is less than what you find in other electric vehicles and obviously, this has been one of the main talking points since the MX-30 was unveiled. But let us ask you a quick question. How many times do you drive over 150 km in a day? Do you even drive that far in a week? The average commute of Canadians is 8.7 km. Many will drive more than that, but more often than not the daily commute is less than 40 or 50 km

Therefore, if we look at range as the number of kilometres you need to drive every day as opposed to the maximum number that you could theoretically drive, the 2022 Mazda MX-30 has more than enough range for your daily needs.

It charges a lot faster than other electric vehicles

When you think about it, why is range so important in an electric vehicle? We don't really think about the range that we can do in our gas-powered vehicle, do we? We don't care about the range of a gas vehicle because we know that we can fill up our gas tank very quickly if we need to and we can keep going. If your gas vehicle only had 161 km of range, would it be a big deal?

Well, it is a big deal if your electric vehicle needs 9, 10, or even 12 hours to fully charge. But when you can charge your EV quickly, range isn’t that important anymore. Here’s why.

The Mazda MX-30 has a much smaller battery than other electric vehicles with 35.5 kWh. That means that it is a lot faster to charge a 2022 Mazda MX-30. Using a Level 2 (240V) home charger, you can charge your MX-30 in about three hours.

Using a Level III charger, you will get 80% of range in about 36 minutes and that's on a 50-kW charger. Other electric vehicles can charge in under an hour on a Level III charger as well, but they usually require 150-kW to charge that quickly. On a 50-kW charger, total charging time is well over 1.5 hours.

So, let's say an average electric vehicle can do 350 km on a full charge and requires 10 hours to charge.

Now the Mazda MX-30 can do 161 km, but it only requires a little over three hours to charge. Now let's say you want to do 450 km. In a traditional electric vehicle, you will need to drive 350 km and then wait over 10 hours for a full charge. In a Mazda MX-30, you will need to do a full charge twice on your way, but it will only take you about six hours total. This is on a Level 2 charger. On a 50-kW charger, you will only need to twice and it will take a little over an hour total.

In other words, doing 450 km in a Mazda MX-30 can take half the time as a traditional electric vehicle.

The exceptional value

The 2022 Mazda MX-30 gives you the range you need in the quick charging times you want from an electric vehicle. Better yet, it also gives you exceptional value. A fully equipped model starts at just over $47,000 and you can get up to $12,000 in rebates from the Québec and Canada governments. That means that your fully loaded MX-30 will cost you less than $30,000. The Mazda MX-30 is one of the best values in the industry and we can't wait to tell you more.
