2023 Mazda CX-5 or 2023 Mazda CX-30?

Where it can get complicated is in choosing the right model for you. With SUV's to suit every need, how do you know if you're getting the right deal?

Let's take a look at what sets the CX-5 apart from the CX-30 to help you make the right selection.

Space

We're not going to run you through an orgy of numbers to tell you how one has so many more millimeters to offer for your legs or the other has so many more liters to offer for cargo. Let's keep it simple, really.

The CX-5 is a bit bigger than the CX-30. So, if cargo space is important and you're always driving around with the back end full of stuff, you'll be more comfortable with this model. Otherwise, the CX-30's trunk will do the job. Our advice, if you're ever in a dealership, is to bring along the things you're used to carrying. Or, take the time to measure everything. It's up to you, because it's your needs we're talking about.

In the back, the CX-5 will give your passengers a little more room. They'll be comfortable in the CX-30, but if you often invite people in the back, the CX-5 might be a better choice.

Fuel economy

With both vehicles, you get really good fuel economy ratings. Mazda's Skyactiv engines are among the most efficient in the industry. However, because of their size, the lighter CX-30 consumes slightly less fuel than the CX-5. What's more, its 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine gains 5 horsepower (186 to 191), but more importantly, consumes less fuel than before. The drop is significant, down to 0.8 liters per 100 kilometers.

Behind the wheel

Behind the wheel, you'll find two vehicles with dynamic behavior. However, because of its more compact size, the sportiness is better defined with the CX-30. Also, if you live in places where space is tight, you'll be more comfortable with maneuvers that require more skill.

Finally, note that comfort is good with both, but that the CX-5 is a bit more refined in this respect.
