Mazda provides more info on its upcoming electric models
November 25 2022,
By 2025, Mazda plans to release a number of new models that are part of its ambitious electrification strategy. These vehicles will be constructed on a new SKYACTIV EV platform and will feature a variety of electrified drivetrain options. The 2024 Mazda CX-70 and 2024 CX-90 plug-in hybrid SUVs were also confirmed with a planned arrival for next year.
New Mazda plug-in hybrid SUVs will debut in 2023
The new Mazda PHEV SUVs will likely offer the same plug-in hybrid powertrain offered on CX-60 models in Europe. The latter offers over 50 kilometres of all-electric range with over 300 horsepower. This engine is one of the most impressive PHEV powertrains on the market over in Europe, and it would provide CX-70 and CX-90 owners an efficient, powerful, and very quick engine that will not only deliver traditional Mazda performance and driving pleasure, but also the kind of range buyers want from their plug-in hybrid powertrain.
A new Mazda CX-50 Hybrid
Mazda also confirmed that we will see a new CX-50 Hybrid trim next year. Featuring the same dynamic design and luxurious amenities of the current CX-50, the new model will also be even more efficient.
Mazda also announced that its two of its SUVs will use a mild-hybrid powertrain that is powered by a 48-volt battery. Mild-hybrid engines deliver improved efficiency and enhanced performance without costing more. In simple terms, this new technology will preserve the driving feel and performance of Mazda SUVs while enhancing even more the fuel economy rating of each model.
David Klan, President and CEO of Mazda Canada, said "We are very excited to be sharing more details about our electrified future in Canada, focused on the right vehicles in the right segments that our customers are asking for," said David Klan, President and CEO, Mazda Canada. "The CX-90 and CX-70 PHEV models coming next year will bring a level of performance above anything we've ever offered in Canada, along with electrified efficiency, and the craftsmanship our customers expect from Mazda."
Mazda's new electric vehicle lineup will use the SKYACTIV EV platform
Mazda has once again stated its intention to sell only electric vehicles beginning in 2030. Mazda's upcoming battery-powered vehicles will be based on a new platform called SKYACTIV EV. This model will underpin new Mazda electrified vehicles with Mazda planning to offer only models with an electric or hybrid powertrain by 2030.
This new platform will also serve as a base for a new fully-electric Mazda SUV that is planned in the next two years.
New Mazda electrified models coming:

- New 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV
